We are located in suburban South Australia. The avian research program commenced
In September 2006 and our initial subject species was the Australian Budgerigar.
The research undertaken was one of a global collaboration including several of the world’s
renowned geneticists and highly expert breeders. The end result was the breeding of new
mutations such as a Hooded Crest variety and publication and release of a comprehensive
manual which was well received and distributed worldwide – The Budgerigar Breeders
Scientific Manual.
The intention of this web site is not to preach avian genetics, nor to profess a higher expertise
relative to all those breeders and geneticists gone before, but to share a wealth of information
and colour-classify homing pigeon varieties we carefully assess and deem genetically accurate.
To those of you whom have a heartfelt interest in genetics and a passion to breed pigeons for
racing or show, I am certain that in conjunction with other excellent web sites this progressive
addition will provide an ongoing source to assist with any new mutation’s colour identification
and presentation of new colour varieties which will be constantly updated in our Parade
of Pigeons photo gallery.
As we are a non-profit organization and not financially subsidized we will be raising money
to finance ongoing research through the sale of rare coloured disposable pigeons to the
Australian public. Once we have sufficient homers to call upon for future experimental
Research - photos and details of sale birds will be posted.
A.A.R.O’s financial transactions are conducted through PayPal and purchase enquiries
are to be received and coordinated through our email address:

I would now like to take the opportunity of thanking the generous hearted and scientifically
minded Australian and American breeders whom graciously assisted the project in many
ways and in generously donating several rare coloured pigeons of high quality towards
achieving our challenging goals: Jules Debrenni, Clive & Allan Sanderson, Richie Darling,
Ross & Rosie Kearns, Richard & Angie of South Australia and Richard (Dick) Milner
and Peter Tripoli of Western Australia; members of the S.A.H.P.A & A.N.P.A - a special
mention to Bob Mcguan of Slobberknocker Lofts (USA).
Our research methodology is accurately administered thereby ensuring a higher mode of
biological control with a view to facilitating and coordinating an exact data based science
in our experimental breeding program. To initiate our exciting and ground breaking
research an innovative genetics program was set up to introduce and formulise a
progressive genotypic blueprint of the three well established colours – Ash Red, Blue-Black
and Brown in order of dominance. Each and every colour is careful analysed by the
research team prior to a classification declaration of its genetic phenotype and if any
of a viewing public finds valid cause to disagree, we welcome any professed point of view
along with supportive scientific fact to the contrary – we have no qualms with initiating
amendments – for to err is to be human.

For interested breeders all new colors & patterns achieved to date may be successfully bred into
all other existing classified breed of pigeon and it is envisaged that this web site is to be viewed
and enjoyed as an invitation to experiencing the spectrum of appealing colour combinations to be
uncovered and produced through scientific research & experiment. Once our web site is well
and truly underway there will be postings to demonstrate eye-sign colors and any other genetic
anomalies that come to light along the way. The realization of new mutations and color varieties
will be presented in due course. A brief description and color comparisons will assist to better
understand Phenotype (Visual medium) and Genotype (Genetic constitution).
Although well versed in the field of avian science and having Australian and International mentors
to call upon, I do not profess to be an expert and only wish to provide a ‘Nature’s Window’ to
whatever exciting and noteworthy discoveries may be forthcoming. On behalf of A.A.R.O, I wish
to thank my son Matthew for his marvellous web site design and artistic flair.
God bless you all and may you keep enjoying the wonderful hobby and art of pigeon breeding.

We cautiously believe that over time we can produce colour varieties presently considered to be
genetically unattainable - especially where the racing pigeon is concerned. I am certain that as our
photographic postings will subsequently attest, nothing in the realm of Nature’s wonderment
should be looked upon as scientifically impossible.
Due to our ongoing research into the significance of eye-sign as a performance parameter and the
time old mystery surrounding the homing instincts of such accomplished marvels of the air,
we have concentrated the majority of our breeding experiments on Racing Homers that are
occasionally intermingled with any unusual coloured feral pigeons to be trapped and sent
our way; these feral mutations are carefully chosen for out-crossing to introduce any unusual trait
deemed desirable.
To date we have bred homers with the one eye pearl and the other a dark grey. One particular
pigeon worthy of mention has split coloured eyes – the top ½ being bright orange and the
bottom black; we are presently breeding homers with light grey eyes. The majority of our young
homers are club rung & flown.
To present as natural a color representation as possible most photo shots are taken indoors and
without artificial lighting so expect a less than sharpness in clarity - it is not in A.A.R.O’s best
interest to touch-up photographic postings - for we consider color factor realism is paramount
to assist inexperienced breeders to confidently recognise the innumerable color and pattern
variations - ‘So what you see is what you get folks!’

In response to the many emails received and requesting we should also feature the Australian
Budgerigar, I have selected the very best photography and information in this regard of which
can now be accessed by going to the Nomenclature Clarification segment of this website.
For added viewing pleasure this informative segment also exhibits a cross section of very
Interesting Photography that has absolutely nothing to do with pigeons - take a relaxing
gander and enjoy!
